I have this notepad next to me that I got in one of those Humane Society envelopes. It has kittens wearing skies. I can't for the life of me remember actually getting it and putting it here by the computer, but it has my name on it. Strange.
Um well, guessI'll write about today and yesterday. I'm still pretty down as this has just been a wretched week (hell month so far) and it will take a while to feel better. But that's okay if I can keep my head up and do things I enjoy.
Yesterday for Animal Behavior lab we stayed inside most of the day to do catching uo. You see, some weeks ago we went out to find beavers and we dug up some tracks since Mike thought they had been there too long (going by the bootprints and ice thickness). We were relieved to find no dead beavers on the end. Anyway, so Mike got a call from the Game Warden and what we did was..completely illegal and luckily the trapper was not mad at him, or there could have been..courtness. So he invited the warden to teach us all about trapping regulations and such during our normal lecture time. It was interesting, but I don't really like trapping and was the only one to raise my hand when he asked if anyone is really against it. I said "sorta", since I understand why it has to be done...I just don't like what surounds it, the whole need to kill and the rules and blah.
Did you know in Vermont it is legal to go right up to a coyote den and shoot them? Shoot the pups coming right out, shoot the parents? Mike told us that Friday when he was having a morals argument with another student. Someone claimed that the coyote thing is the way it is because no one knows and makes a ruckus, and thus no one cares. I know you can't really..care about something you do not know, but I didn't know that til Friday and it pisses me off.
The morals came about surrounding beavers. We thought the rule was something like 20 feet from the lodge, but the rule is actually 10 feet is the minimum distance. It's studpid, the animal does not have ahcnace if this is too close to the lodge entry or exit. Accordig to the warden, no matter WHERE you put the trap in a beaver pond, you WILL catch a beaver. So why not give it a sporting chance at least, instead of killing it at it's doorstep? It disturbs me. Iknow it's "just a beaver" but if you're not any animal type, imagine it as "oh, just some human." Anyway the warden claimed he knew the science to this reason for making the distance 10 feet and so on..and when he actually did answer Mike's question? The reason the minimum distance is 10 feet is "because that's the law in New York". ....Wtf man. That's a dumbass reason. But yea..Mike and another kid nearly got in a fight over it. Mike wants it longer, and the kid's argument was "if you;re going to kill one, then put it where you'll definetely get one".
...It's always a hard call I suppose..I don't really like trapping or hunting. I had a discussion with Keith earlier and the truth is, I more often care about animal life more than human life. I don't think human are emotionless bastards obviously, I know most of us have a sense of ethics and compassions, and we have feelings but...I dunno. I have the whole "well if we can kill beaver to keep the population down, why can't we go take out worthless crazy raving bums to keep down human population?" ...I realize this sounds horrible...but I don't see the point of keeping pointless humans around sometimes, and killing some animal smarter than them that has done no harm. I donate to the Humane Society and such before I donate to anything human related. That cat sitting in the pound, that dog willing to service the physically disable just for food and some affection... will be a more loyal and loving companion than some fuckers I have met.
...Okay and now I have scared most of my readers =D
ANYWAY dear Lord I got off track..Friday was such a nice day that after lecture and a video we went trecking in the woods behind the college. For the first time we actually SAW something. We found an area that was a complete freakin MESS...poo everywhere, branches and such strewn about. The remains of a messy porcupine. After searching around, we finally spotted him - above us. The prickly sucker had climed HIGH up into the tree! We went up a slope excitedly and whipped out binoculars to watch him walking along the branch. It was hard to see but exciting. He was making a lot of movement til one of the students...made the LOUDEST and more grandious fall I think I have seen in lab so far. I have no idea how he did it but he made as much noice falling in the snow and branches as he possibly COULD. So porcy stalled. Eventually we had to go back but that was fun.
That evening I came home with the sole intent of drawing and emoing the night away but Keri happened to call and I got to eat Chinese with her and Kevin. The Chinese waitress? Did have all her screws in tight. I asked for milk and she was like "Oooh, sorry no milk we are ALWAYS out!" ....I go there ALL the freakin time abnd every single time I have a tall glass of milk. But whatever I got orange juice..which came with lots of ice and quickly became "slightly orangey water"..speaking of which the water tasted horrible. Keri and I kept blanching at it and then...taking more sips. I also specifically asked for no bean sprouts in my Lo Mein but GUESS WHAT THEY MESSED UP! ...Oh well dinner was nice anyway. Keri and I kept going in unison..that was amusing. Hopefully next week we will all trek up to Montreal to the Biodome.
After dinner we retarded at the college. We were going in rooms announcing like..our own names..well they were, my role was to just make a like..mental patient noise and bust in with them. We went for Keith and ran around the new dorm aimlessly for a while before trying Vail which apparently they had just re-acquired for gaming that day. After disgracing the boards we all went home and I colored a picture for DA I'm darn proud of.
Today was fun. We had the RPC fundraiser which was a Videogame room with a $3 entry fee. Well, since LSC students suck and avoid MANY fun activities basically our club was the entire turnout heh. However with each of us paying the money we did make a fairly good amount. I thought I'd get bored but I had fun playing videogames for like..I dunno, 11 or 12 hours? I played Mario Soccer, Smash Bros., Katamari..Katamari is like..so weird. I've always wanted to play it and it's like..REALLY freaking addictive and kinda fun. I wish I could have enjoyed it more but I had a headache and hungry stomach pains getting to me so I had to break for lunch (Mmm..I'm addicted to Subway sandwiches with Teriyaki chicken and string cheese toasted and then pickles and Ranch dressing added *drool*).
I supplied a Super Nintendo which I ended up spending most of my time at. Mariokart, and I played Super Nintendo with this one girl, Heather...I found out she's on DA so I added her. I love meeting people and finding out they have DA, it's nice to see art of someone you have met face to face, for some reason. She's got a nice gallery. There was this guy with her (..I aumme her boyfriend the way he kept like tickling her xD) I talked to him too and at first he semed kinda..frumpy? Or maybe just not as outgoing...but he was actually pretty nice. Maybe he thought I was like a dumb dork and then decided I was okay, ha ha. I dunnos.
I got home around 1 am, it was really foggy on the way home and I was a litle worried, but it went all right. I owe a major apology to Keri and Kevin for not calling them for lunch like I said I would...there simply wasn't the time. Subway and that was it, I think we were gone a little under and hour from the game room. Anyway I need to grovel at them next contact because not calling when you say you will like that is something that irks me, and so I don't want to dish it out, it's rude.
Tomorrow...I dunno what is going on. Sleep in? And get to see Keith.
In the cas we no see Curt...
